It's not just about weight loss, it's about PHYSICAL ACHIEVEMENT!

By Jamaul Ford, MS

Lifestyle changes are tough especially when it comes to your New Years' resolution, diet, and exercise. Now is about the time that it becomes even more challenging. Like many people, you are looking for the results of your dedication to a new healthy lifestyle but you are not seeing them quite yet. And like most people, you tend to become so agitated by your lack of results. Eventually, you revert back to your old lifestyle abandoning your resolution all together. This is what I like to call “Make It or break it" time. You have to push through the brick wall of mental, physical, and emotional things that are holding you back to get to the next level. This can be difficult… Dedicatiing you life to diet and exercise can be difficult. UNLESS you abandon the mentality of measuring your progress through weight loss and start measuring it through PHYSICAL ACHIEVEMENT.
"Being able to do thing you have never done before or have not done in a long time can be rewarding enough to help you continue your lifestyle change".
This past weekend, for my best friend's birthday, me and my friends went rock climbing. This was me first time doing so, and I was excited but very skeptical of my ability to climb the rock wall. When I first started climbing,  I thought to myself, “This is not that hard" . About a minute later, half way up the wall, I wasn’t singing that tune anymore. My heart began racing faster and faster and I knew this rock climbing experience was way harder than it looked. What made it worse was that there were little kids passing me up. I couldn't let little kids pass me up, so I pressed on. Finally, before I knew it, about a minute later,  I had made it to the top of the mountain. I now had a new sense of acheievement thanks to my desire to work harder and become better.
The truth is, you have to try something different and push yourself while doing it in order to achieve results. These are the types of exercises that will help you achieve your New Year's resolution, diet and exercise goals. You can do anything you put true effort into. Remember, mind over body. Challenge your Will, Challenge your Body, Challenge LIFE!

In 2015 take back your health! Use these 5 tips and Be Fit Today!

By Jamaul Ford

Have you made your fitness and diet resolution for the New Year? Well so have I. Like you, I plan to eat healthier and work out smarter so that I can BE FIT and healthy. These New Year's resolutions will benefit us tremendously. But sometimes, they only last for short periods. In order for our New Year's resolutions to work we have to make them sustainable over the entire course of the year. The best way to do so is by implementing subtle lifestyle changes that can significantly alter your overall fitness and quality of life for decades to come.

Here are a few ideas:

1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator at work.
2. Eat a salad at least once a day.
3. Cook healthy food in bulk.
4. Ride your bike or walk to closer destinations instead of drive.
5. Drink at least 64 ounces of water each day.

While these small lifestyle changes may seem insignificant, at this time, they can build a foundation for a better quality of life.
